Requirements for Continuing Education Units and Inservice Points
This course was designed for school-based therapists to meet the district 18 hour
inservice requirement for teachers of limited English proficient students in
subjects other than English, math, science, social studies or computer literacy per
the State Board of Education rule 6A-6.0907 (3)(a), FAC, Inservice Requirements for
Personnel of Limited English Proficient Students. The course has also been approved
for Continuing Education Units (CEUs). See below for more information.
Continuing Education Units (CEU)
This course has been approved for CEUs for speech-language pathologists through the
American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA), for occupational therapists
through Pinellas County Public Schools, and for physical therapists through Florida
Gulf Coast University, Department of Rehabilitation Sciences.
To be eligible for the award of continuing education
units you must complete all of the following:
- Review of Course Content
Review of the course
content includes all content, additional links, resources, and the
Check Your Knowledge at the end of each unit.
- Final Assessment
Pass the final assessment
with at least 80% accuracy. The final assessment can be accessed
from the My Courses page, AFTER you have reviewed all the course
content.
- Follow-up/CEU Activity
Speech-language
pathologists should download an ASHA CEU Participant Form from the
My Courses page. Occupational therapists and physical therapists
should download an OT/PT Intent to Seek CEUs Form from the My
Courses page.
- Verification of Intent to Seek CEUs
Speech-language pathologists should upload an ASHA CEU Participant
Form to the My Courses page. Occupational therapists and physical
therapists should upload an OT/PT Intent to Seek CEUs Form to the My
Courses page.
- Satisfaction Survey
The survey can be
accessed from the My Courses page, AFTER you have completed the
above requirements.
- Certificate of Completion
The Certificate of
Completion is ONLY available after you have completed ALL the above
requirements and is located on the My Courses page.
District Awarded Inservice Points
Inservice points can only be awarded by a Florida school district/organization with
an approved Florida Master In-service Plan (MIP). It is recommended that you contact
your individual school district's professional development department BEFORE
beginning the course, to verify the requirements you must fulfill to earn inservice
points towards renewal of a Florida educator's certificate. If you are seeking
district inservice points, beginning January 1, 2019, FDLRS will verify completion
of inservice credits to districts or other entities on a quarterly basis.
To be eligible for the suggested district inservice
points for this course, you must successfully complete all the following items:
- Review of Course Content

- Reflection Portfolio
Keep a written or
digital portfolio of your responses to the reflection questions
located throughout each unit of the course.
- Final Assessment
Pass the final assessment
with at least 80% accuracy. The final assessment can be accessed
from the My Courses page, AFTER you have reviewed all the course
content.
- Follow-up Activity
Complete one of the
follow-up activity options by applying what you have learned in this
course.
- Summarize and apply information from a reading and plan an
event for professionals at your school.
- Assess, observe and plan support for a student with reading
difficulties, then provide vocabulary and comprehension
instruction
Complete instructions can be accessed on the My Courses page AFTER
you have successfully passed the final assessment.
- Follow-up Activity Verification Form
Submit
the Follow-up Activity and Verification Form to your supervisor,
along with the suggested rubrics. Once the verification form has
been signed by your supervisor, go to the My Courses page and upload
it.
- Satisfaction Survey
The survey can be
accessed from the My Courses page, AFTER you have completed the
above requirements.
- Certificate of Completion
Print and submit
the Certificate of Completion to your professional development
department. It is ONLY available after you have completed ALL the
above requirements and is located on the My Courses page.
