Section 5: Knowledge of Communication and Media Literacy
Students SpeakingDemonstrate Knowledge of Listening and Speaking Strategies

Expressing wants, feelings, thoughts and opinions clearly and effectively is only half of the communication process needed for interpersonal effectiveness. The other half is listening and understanding what others communicate to us.

Listening and speaking are essential to sharing ideas and communicating in the classroom, and are the basis of students' learning and thinking. Florida Standards require students to engage effectively in a range of collaborative discussions to build on other's ideas and express their own clearly.

Objective

In this section you will look at listening and speaking strategies for emergent learners. These strategies address questioning, paraphrasing, eye contact, voice and gestures.
