In this section, you have explored the developmental stages of writing and the writing process for elementary students. You learned about conventions of standard American English; text types and purposes of writing (narrative, descriptive, expository, and persuasive); and selecting the appropriate mode of writing for a variety of occasions, purposes, and audiences.  You also learned some ways to assess writing in order to plan and differentiate instruction.
