Supporting the writing process with technology

Student at a computer. Each student approaches writing differently, and for most of these students, various technologies can be used to support their writing process. Difficulties with handwriting or spelling can be addressed via composing on a keyboard or with spellcheck software. Students may find it easier to organize and revise their writing on a computer; they can then easily share their work with others. The following link goes into more detail on using technology to plan, compose, revise, and share student writing.

Kent State's Research Center for Educational Technology helps teachers and students understand how technology fits into everyday classrooms. Read their suggestions for programs and mobile apps for writing and literacy education. They pinpoint three areas of interest—preparing students for writing, creating multimodal compositions, and publishing student writing—and explain the importance to students in being conversant with appropriate technology in each of these areas.
