Student Portfolios

A portfolio is one way to document processes and accomplishments in an authentic way. A portfolio is a student's unique, personal, and meaningful way of documenting his or her work accomplishments and relevant competencies within a domain or task area, for a particular purpose, at a certain time, or for a particular audience. A portfolio might include.

  • a collection of student's work to represent a selection of performance-based activity  (papers, writings, projects, etc.)
  • a students' reflections on the pieces of work chosen for portfolio
  • testimonials
  • student self-evaluations
  • biographical resources, journal or diary entries/excerpts
  • external reviews or evaluations of students' works, growth or accomplishments
  • visual documentations of work completed or in progress (models, photographs, digital images)
  • computer disks
  • scrapbooks and other items selected by the students for a specific purpose
