Introduction

Elementary K-6 Online Content Review Module Reading and Language Arts
and Common Core State Standards

Students studying reading and language arts need to meet the new Common Core Literacy Standards for each grade level throughout their K-12 education in order to become college-and career-ready.

The Common Core Literacy Standards establish that instruction in reading, writing, speaking, listening and language is a shared responsibility among English language arts and the content areas of mathematics, history/social studies, science and technical subjects. Teachers in the content areas have expertise in their disciplines and can help students reach the literacy standards within subject areas whether they teach all subjects in a grade level or specialize in specific subject areas.

The Common Core Literacy Standards for Grades K-6 are included in the section: English Language Arts & Literacy in History/Social Studies, Science, and Technical Studies and are found on the website http://www.floridastandards.org/Standards/Common_Core_Standards.aspx.

The acronyms serve as direct links so that participants may quickly access either set of standards at any time during their online studies.
